Dr. Seuss gets Protected by ACRYLITE® AR
Project Description
The Art of Dr. Seuss, A Retrospective and National Touring Exhibition will tour the country portraying the life and career of Theodor Seuss Geisel otherwise known as Dr. Seuss. The exhibit, presented by The Chase Group and curator William W. Dreyer, provides a rare glimpse into the artistic life of this celebrated American author. As part of the touring preparation for the exhibit, the historical panels displaying Ted Geisel’s work have been framed in ACRYLITE® AR acrylic sheet. The lightweight abrasion resistant sheet was chosen because of its exceptional clarity and extreme durability. “With so much handling as the pieces travel to 40 different locations, the exhibition needs the maximum level of durability to prevent marring over the years. ACRYLITE AR sheet has all the advantages of glass without the weight and breakage issues. We felt Evonik Cyro's acrylic was the best option for the tour,” adds Dreyer. ACRYLITE AR sheet offers excellent abrasion and chemical resistant properties, preventing marring from everyday public contact, daily cleanings, and airborne dirt and dust. It can also be cleaned with many common household glass cleaners. The 32 historical panels framed in ACRYLITE AR sheet are the focus of the exhibition displaying various works from Ted Geisel’s career. The Art of Dr. Seuss tour will travel to 40 different cities through 2005 to give as many people as possible a chance to view these rare works. [More information ...]
“The reason we chose Evonik Cyro's acrylic is for its crystal clarity and shine, which gives the exhibition a real sparkle. It adds an almost liquid finish to the panels,” comments Dreyer. This historical exhibition will touch on various aspects of Ted Geisel’s artistic career including: The Early Illustrations, Advertising Works, World War II, The Economy, Into Obscurity, Inside the Illustration Art, A Collection of Unorthodox Taxidermy, The Secret Art Collection, Works from the Dr. Seuss Estate, The Dr. Seuss National Memorial and Sculpture Garden. An American icon, Dr. Seuss has worldwide recognition as an author. The Art of Dr. Seuss Touring Exhibition will display a side of Ted Geisel’s work with which very few people are familiar. The exhibition displays his artwork from his 20 years in advertising, his 6-year involvement in the WWII effort, and works from his magazine career during the 20’s and 30’s. Patrons will discover facts about this celebrated American author that they never knew. This exhibition shows that the common thread running through Ted Geisel’s entire career, whether in his children’s books, his cartoons, his advertising, or his illustrations, is his artwork. Even years before Dr. Seuss wrote his first book in 1937 there is a clearly ‘seussian’ style to all his works. His distinctive artwork is the platform from which he launched 44 children’s books, 400 WWII cartoons and editorials, hundreds of advertisements, and countless numbers of paintings and sculptures throughout his lifetime.
